I know it’s not the first Monday of the month, but we’re still getting a playlist! It took me a little bit to get some inspiration, but I settled on Graceling by Kristin Cashore! Specifically because the graphic novel comes out this month. So, this month’s playlist is dedicated to Katsa, the strong willed girl at the center of Graceling. It’s probably my favorite book of the series, and I recommend it to anyone who’s looking for some great YA fantasy.
Katsa has been Graced with the ability to kill. This makes her the muscle for the king, but it isn’t a life she wants for herself. When she meets Po, she realizes that there might be more to her gift than she ever realized.
Katsa Playlist
This book originally came out around the same time as The Hunger Games, and Katsa and Katniss admittedly share a lot of similar qualities. One of the great things about Cashore’s works is the feminism engrained in each of the books. I can’t recommend them enough, honestly! Especially Graceling and Fire.
