Oh hey, a post that isn’t a book review! My apologies for only focusing on reviews for the last few months; it was all I really had the energy to do! But, I think I’m going to get back to writing recommendation and other kinds of posts again soon. Some of those reading recommendation posts just take a lot time to create! But anyway, I digress. Today we’re going to be talking about picture books for Pride Month!
Pride picture books have come a long way in the last couple of years. So much so that we’re able to create an entire display for them at work! If yo’ure looking for some great books to round out the end of Pride Month, definitely check some of these out! This post is brought to you by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, who sent me a copy of Mighty Red Riding Hood by Wallace West to review. Read more about it below!

Pride Picture Books
Mighty Red Riding Hood by Wallace West
A queer retelling of Red Riding Hood, what more could you want, honestly? It’s about staying on your path even when strangers might contradict you. Such an empowering story for young readers!
Grandad’s Camper by Harry Woodgate
This sweet picture book is about a girl who goes on a trip with her Grandad, who is missing his partner. The illustrations are stunning and the story will just melt your heart.
Mama and Mommy and Me in the Middle by Nina Lacour
One little girl loves being with Mama and Mommy, but when Mommy goes on a trip, she has to figure out what to do with her emotions. This book has beautiful illustrations, seriously. I love them.
When Aidan Became a Brother by Kyle Lukoff
After transitioning to be a boy, Aidan now has to get ready for a new younger sibling. Such a great book about transgender folks and the way it can change a family.
Calvin by Vanessa and Jr. Ford
Join Calvin, a transgender boy, as he gets ready for his first day of school. This is such a feel good picture book, and I love that Calvin can feel so seen.
‘Twas the Night Before Pride by Joanna McClintick
A celebration of families going to Pride, and a history of why Pride started in the first place. I love the combination of history and present day.
The Hips on the Drag Queen Go Swish, Swish, Swish by Lil Miss Hot Mess
You know the classic “Wheels on the Bus”? Check out the drag queen version! It’s fantastic.
Two Grooms on a Cake by Rob Sanders
The tale about the first legal same-sex marriage to take place in the United States in 1971. An absolutely wonderful story.
