Summary
Just days before Spring Break, Neil is set to fly across the country with Josh, his current friend with benefits. However, when Josh pronounces his love for Neil and Neil doesn’t return the favor, plans change. Now, Neil has to find someone else to take to his brother’s wedding.
Enter Wyatt, Neil’s roommate. Since Josh is still attending the wedding, Neil enlists Wyatt’s help for the week. Pretend to be Neil’s boyfriend and Wyatt will get an all-expenses paid trip to California. The only problem? Neil and Wyatt have never gotten along. However, as the week goes on and Wyatt sees more of Neil’s personal life, everything might just change.
Review: The Feeling of Falling in Love
Thanks to PUSH for sending us an advanced copy of The Feeling of Falling in Love by Mason Deaver to review! I absolutely adore Mason Deaver’s writing, and knew that this was going to be another favorite. Happy to say that I definitely wasn’t disappointed!
What’s great about Mason Deaver is their unwaivering commitment to writing trans love stories. Which is absolutely what we get with The Feeling of Falling in Love. Yes, we get some of the typical romance tropes, but we love to see them! Especially the grumpy/sunshine kind of book. Wyatt is an absolute joy and I will protect them with my life. We get to see a little of their home life and it’s adorable. I loved it. Wyatt deserves all the good in the world.
On the other hand, Neil is a tough nut to crack. As we see more of how he grew up, his character makes more and more sense. While I loved Wyatt as a character, I think Neil’s journey is more fulfilling. He gets to see that pushing people away maybe isn’t the best tactic for life. And that maybe his family isn’t as bad as he originally thought. The way he eventually falls for Wyatt? Adorable. I adored their evolving relationship.
Outside of the characters, Deaver’s writing is also on point in this book. You can see how their writing has grown since I Wish You All the Best, and I am here for it. Keep writing books, please! They are much needed.
All in all, if you’re looking for a cute, trans romance to end your summer on, definitely pick this one up when it comes out!
