Summary

The lands of humans and dragons have been living under a truce since the last war almost destroyed them both. The truce requires only women to sit on the throne, giving dragons free reign in their kingdom. If a man ever retakes the throne, dragons are allowed to retaliate.

Samansa and Kierk are heirs to their respective kingdoms, required to get to know each other in order to eventually take over as rulers. However, they unveil a secret that threatens the peace that each kingdom has kept for so long. Will they be able to solve it before violence ensues?

Review: Lady Dragon

Thanks to NetGalley and Feiwel & Friends for an advanced copy of Lady Dragon by AM Strickland to review! With the popularity of Fourth Wing, I’ve definitely seen an increase in dragon stories. And I’m not mad about it!

For the most part, this is more of a politics driven plot, focused on the tenuous situation between the human and the dragon kingdoms. I appreciated that we got perspectives from both Samansa and Kierk; it felt like it gave us a wider view of the world overall. However, some aspects of the world building could have been fleshed out a little more, especially when it came to the human kingdom.

The real driving force in this book for me was Samansa and Kierk’s relationship. Though it seemed to move a little quickly, magic did seem like it was partly involved. They were eventually able to be vulnerable with each other, which offset the more violent nature of the conflict between their kingdoms.

All in all, if you like politically driven dragon stories with a strong romance at the core, I’d recommend checking this one out!
