Summary

The Bureau of Mystical Affairs is in charge of keeping magic in check in Fair Glen, Illinois. Monroe is a recruit ready to ace her first assignment: tracking down the source of a rogue love charm.

This means protecting her classmates from the rogue love charm. Which means the Bureau’s director’s daughter, Iris, is also in trouble. When Iris suggests to Monroe that they should fake date for different reasons, things start to get complicated.

Review: Charmed and Dangerous

Thanks to NetGalley and Random House for an advanced copy of Charmed and Dangerous by Shelly Page to review! I enjoyed her YA debut last year, Brewed With Love, so I was excited to jump into another cozy, queer fantasy. And this one definitely didn’t disappoint!

The premise of this one was what originally drew me in. An agency in charge of magic for a town? A little bit of mystery with the fantasy? Through in a cute romance and you have the overall vibes of this book. Page also does a good job of fleshing out the characters, giving you a good sense of the world, the magic, and the town of Fair Glen.

Fake dating is another one of my favorite romance tropes, because you know it’s just going to end with both of them catching feelings. But they’ll also try to downplay it. There’s an added complexity of fake dating here, as Monroe is also trying to investigate this love charm. It makes for some great romance situations, and keeps the overall lighthearted nature of the story.

All in all, if you like cozy fantasy with a central romance, definitely check this one out when it comes out at the end of March!
