Summary

Lily’s family is constantly moving: jumping from place to place in Canada and eventually ending up in Shanghai, China. She mostly lives with her father, since her mother is absent for long periods of time. As Lily grows up, can she escape her traumatic past or will it continue to haunt her?

Review: Until We Meet Again

Thanks to NetGalley and First Second for an advanced copy of Until We Meet Again by Lily Kim Qian to review! This is a fairly short graphic memoir, but it still packs quite the punch. Qian’s life story is one of heartbreak, but also one of hope. A story about life’s challenges (especially with mental health), and learning how to move past it.

The art in this is gorgeous. It brings to life what’s happening on the page, but also gives it kind of an ethereal quality, tying all of these events together. I really enjoyed the color palette as well, on the darker side but with brighter pops of color.

The writing combined with the art makes this a short but emotional read. If you enjoy graphic novel memoirs, I’d definitely recommend picking this one up in April!
