Review: The Last Best Quest Ever

Thanks to Simon & Schuster for an advanced copy of The Last Best Quest Ever by FT Lukens! A new FT Lukens book is always exciting, and I loved the quest forward nature of this one. The overall tone is lighthearted, even with the dangerous nature of Zig’s bargain. The stakes are high, but the adventure to get there is a good time.

One thing Lukens always excells at is characters. Ellinore is our reluctant hero at the center, willing to step in when things get tough even when she messed up in the past. There are sparks between her and Aven right from the beginning, and it was fun to get to see their romance unfold as they went on the quest to save Zig. They work well together, even if they were questing rivals before. Definitely a highlight of the book.

Outside of Aven and Ellinore, the rest of the group holds their own. There’s so much sass and snark between them, but it’s all in good fun. It makes for a somewhat lighthearted story, sort of like bringing a D&D game to life. If you want a book that brings you along on a quest with its characters, then this is definitely the book for you!
