YA Book to Movie Adaptations

Since movies like The Fault In Our Stars, YA book to movie adaptations have become increasingly popular. For me, growing up, a lot of my favorite books didn’t have movies. You know, with the exception of Harry Potter. In the past few years, this has drastically changed. Making YA books into movies sometimes even happens before the book is even out.

Personally, I’m always on the look out for new adaptations, as I’m definitely someone who likes to read the book before I watch the movie. If I’ve already read the book, bonus! Then I’m definitely more likely to want to see the movie. I’ve read most of the following books already, and I’m excited to see what their adaptions look like!

2019 YA Book to Movie Adaptations

The Sun Is Also a Star

Based on the book by Nicola Yoon, this movie is slated to come out on May 17th (and you can already watch the trailer!). The Sun Is Also a Star follows the story of Natasha and Daniel and their chance meeting in New York City–is it love at first sight?

All the Bright Places

While no release date is yet set for this movie, it’s going to most likely be released on Netflix sometime this year. Finch and Violet meet while they’re both standing on the bell tower at school, debating about jumping. Together, they work through their pain, finding friendship in an unlikely place.

P.S. I Still Love You

The sequel to To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, this movie is also slated for a Netflix release sometime this year. And after the success of the first movie, this one is sure to be a hit as well.

Let It Snow

With three different stories told from Maureen Johnson, Lauren Myracle, and John Green, this book would make an excellent holiday movie. Especially for fans of Hallmark. Three different romances intertwine to create one epic story.

Five Feet Apart

This is the only book on the list that I haven’t read, and the movie is already out! As is the book. About two teens with cystic fibrosis who meet in a hospital, it gives me The Fault In Our Stars vibes. But I’d still like to check it out!

What movies are you looking forward to in 2019?

  1. AHHH!!!
I’m so there for all the bright places !! I loved the book SO MUCH, I hope they wont screw it up too much.

Sometimes I had read the book, or planning to, and sometimes I just watch the movie first and read the book after xD *iknow.. SHAME*

    1. I know, me too! I’m nervous that they’ll change too much about it, but I guess we’ll see.

It’s hard to get to the book first, sometimes! The movie is just there–you’ll get to the book sometime. Haha.
