Summary

It’s been fifteen years since Wilmur and Viola’s parents left them in Caveat, promsing they’d be back. Since then, their lives haven’t been too exciting, minus the stories they tell each other in order to stay entertained. At least, until Captain Cadence Chase breaks down their door. Viola and Wilmur see their chance and make a deal with Captain Chase: she can have the book she wants as long as she takes them with her.

Thus begins Wilmur and Viola’s grand adventure at sea. Now, they have to uncover the facts behind the mysterious book–before it’s too late.

Review: Scarlet Morning

Thanks to NetGalley and Quill Tree Books for an advanced copy of Scarlet Morning by ND Stevenson to review! Nimona is one of my favorite graphic novels, so I was excited to pick up ND Stevenson’s newest work. I originally thought it was a graphic novel, but was pleasantly surprised to find a novel with illustrations throughout.

This is absolutely an adventure novel from the beginning. Wilmur and Viola meet a wide array of people as they adventure through the seas, living out the stories that they told each other. I loved the world building in this. We get to see so much of the world through Wilmur and Viola, both through the characters they meet and the places they go.

The amount of characters in this book does get a little overwhelming at times, but it was still a fun ride from beginning to end. Stevenson’s artwork is some of my favorite, and I’m glad that we got to see some of it in this book. I hope that he eventually does more graphic novel work in the future.

All in all, if you’re looking for an entertaining, magical adventure, definitely check this one out!
