Top Ten Tuesday: Characters That Remind Me of Myself

As an avid reader, I relate to the characters in books I read a lot. So, I found it easy to find characters that remind me of myself. Making characters relatable makes the book all the more enjoyable.

I spent most of yesterday working, finishing the B&N Book Club book, and watching the new Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer. All in all, not a terrible day. I also fit in a run, so win-win! Making time to continue the Avengers Readathon this week, once I’m done with the book club book. I’m super excited to continue with the Captain Marvel assignments.

Characters that Remind Me of Myself

1. Hermione from Harry Potter

Is it cliche for a book nerd to say that they relate to Hermione? 😂 Maybe. But it’s true! Hermione is always using the information she knows from books to get out of sticky situations. Books have done that for me too!

2. Charlie from Perks of Being a Wallflower

To me, Charlie is someone who kind of hangs out on the outside, observing before he’s ready to take the jump. That’s 100% me as well. I’m generally not a big risk taker; I’d much rather observe first.

3. Lincoln from Attachments

I just read this book this year, and Lincoln is a post-college graduate, trying to figure out what his next career steps are. As someone that finds herself in this current situation, almost everything about Lincoln’s desire to find his path felt realistic to me.

4. Mikey from The Rest of Us Just Live Here

One of Mikey’s biggest fears is that he’s at the bottom of his friend group. That he’ll be easily left behind. This was something I really struggled with in middle school, moving between friend groups. I think a lot of teenagers feel this way, too.

5. Cath from Fangirl

Hmm…Rainbow Rowell must just be great at writing relatable characters, because I always find something relatable in her books. I’m hoping to get to meet her at BookCon at the end of May!

6. Matilda from Matilda

Matilda is a girl that uses books to escape and change her standing in the world, both things I’ve done as well!

7. Delia from Rayne & Delilah’s Midnite Matinee

At the core, Delia is afraid of change and afraid of being left behind. She’s also afraid of losing her best friend, who’s about to move on to college. I felt this, especially when finally leaving Central and all the people I made connections with these. But I’ve still maintained some of them! Even with distance.

8. Tash from Tash Hearts Tolstoy

When Tash dives into a project, she dives into it fully, giving it her fully attention. I’m similar in this way, not wanting to go half-heartedly into something that takes a lot of work.

9. Hazel from The Fault In Our Stars

Hazel is another avid bookworm, escaping into books when she doesn’t have the ability to get out and have her own adventures. The stories she reads are her adventures.

10. Blue from The Raven Boys

Blue doesn’t feel like she quite fits in anywhere. I kind of felt like that in high school too, but at least I found a niche with friends.
