Author Interview

Q. How long have you been writing?
Prior to this, my writing had been only for press releases or web content. And I always had someone editing my work – grammar and punctuation are my Everest. I’ve always thought of stories – taken notes for stories I came up with, but I never really attempted to sit down and write one until Rome… where THE LOVE FOOL was born.
Q. What are you working on next?
At the moment, I’m focusing on promoting THE LOVE FOOL and I work fulltime (not writing related). Once life gets back to normal, I will get back to working on the new story I had been thinking about for some time. It won’t be another romance-focused story though. I am going to challenge myself in writing a noir-style story – at least that’s the intention. But, who knows what it will turn out to be as I write it?
Q. Do you ever get writer’s block? How do you overcome it?
Yes. Many times, yes. Especially because it is so hard to turn off my business brain and allow the creative one to go nuts. But yes. I trigger the creativity with music. I create playlists and listen to my writing soundtrack (depending on what I’m working on) and allow my mind to think of characters, interactions and scenes. Sometimes I bake too; which allows the mind to just relax.
Q. What advice would you give to budding writers?
Don’t give up. Write. Even if what you write down at the moment sucks, keep it. Save it for later. You never know when you may find another way to use it. And don’t edit yourself as you write. Just let it be. Get back to it later, when you need it. Just write – let it be bad. We all have crappy writing in our notes and drafts. You’re not alone. Just write.
Q. Do you have another profession besides writing?
Yes. Well, I used to work in publicity for travel and cooking shows for public television. I made my character Alex be in the same field – it was what I knew. But that was my past. Today, my side gig is writing content for websites and publications. But my current day job is just another day job that pays the bills.
