Review: Espíritu

Thanks to NetGalley and Feiwel and Friends for an advanced copy of Espíritu by Aiden Thomas to review! Though Cemetery Boys works well on its own, I’m glad we get to once again come back to Yadriel and Julian. Espíritu builds on the world from the first book, adding more details as well as giving us some Julian POV. I liked the balance between him and Yadriel; it felt like it gave us a bigger picture of what was going on.

There’s a lot to love about these books, but Thomas does such a great job with the concept of grief in this one. Julian is still grieving the loss of his father, and the shadows/black holes are sort of a metaphor for that. You can see the growth in Thomas’s writing from the first book to this one. Trust me, if you loved Cemetery Boys, you will also fall head over heels for this book.

All in all, I’m glad that Aiden Thomas decided to return to this world. As a sequel, this book beautifully complements the first book and I can’t wait for other people to read it.
